Do you have a loved one who struggles with addiction? Do you often worry and obsess about their whereabouts, activities, and physical well-being? Do you suffer anxiety, interrupted sleep, and even sickness as a result? If so, Stop Prolonging Your Loved One’s Addiction may be God-ordained reading for you.

In this deeply personal, 21-day devotional, Christian author Jon Sorenson chronicles 18 years of heartbreak and anguish over his son’s alcoholism. Consumed with despair, he began questioning whether God heard his prayers, or even cared. But what happened next is a miraculous story of God’s grace and redemption.

By combining Christian principles with codependency education, Jon shares personal stories of how he stopped taking responsibility for his son’s addiction-related problems—pursuing instead a deeper, more intimate embrace of God’s faithfulness and eternal promises. He also shares valuable insights about relapse, interventions, rehabs, and small group resources.

Jon describes his book as “a must-have repository of practical information and spiritual encouragement for anyone who loves an addict.” Most importantly, he shares how to release your loved one into God’s loving care, and find renewed hope for their lasting sobriety. It’s also perfect as a small group study guide.

Stop Prolonging Your Loved One’s Addiction is available in paperback for $9.99 and e-book for $3.99 on Amazon.

I read this book over the weekend. It was as if I was reading my life. So much good information. My only regret is that I didn’t have it 18 years ago, but it’s never too late. Thank you for such a wonderfully written, informative book that shares such private moments. It will touch anyone who is as lost as I am as to what I should be doing to help my son without continuing to destroy myself.

Jon’s courage in writing this is truly admirable and I’m filled with gratitude. I read and refer to this book often to help me refocus on God who is my strength.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves someone struggling with addiction. It offers practical advice to help you cope with the emotional ups and downs you will undoubtedly face, and also greatly articulates when helping becomes enabling. It will be a valuable resource to use over and over again as you wait patiently for God to do what only He can do.

This book really spoke to me and healed some of my own guilt about the part I played in my loved one’s addiction. I forgave myself. You don’t make good decisions when you are drowning in guilt.

I read the book in one sitting and then went back and re-read the chapters that I felt most aligned with what my needs were. I especially loved the format with the “takeaways,” the prayers, and the very thought provoking questions…all the while reiterating that it was simply the author’s story with no judgment of others if they choose a different path. The author and his son’s willingness to to “put themselves out there” and share some deeply personal stories and emotions gave the book a very human element! I have already recommended this book to coworkers who are struggling with this very subject. Very well done!

I find this book so helpful and important to the healing process of living with dysfunction that I want anyone considering buying it to do so for their way back to sanity. It is a simple, 21-day devotional, but packed with support and truth we all need.

I love this book. I continue to seek help through Al-anon, but your book has given me a different encouragement in a more condensed version. The best part of your book is it’s an easy read. I hate reading so I have struggled with both the AA book and Al-anon book, but this was easy and so relatable. It has really helped.

Nothing has helped me more than this book, and I have been at this a long, long time. I am on my second loved one’s addiction. My career is Mental Health. I never met Jon, nor am I trying to promote his book for any other reason than to help others “see the light” and receive support.

A very empowering book. This devotional offers quick, easy-to-read chapters that are insightful, thought-provoking, and “keep it real.” As a professional who works in the field of mental health and addiction, it can often be difficult to find material that individuals find relatable, practical, and holds their interest. This book checks all the boxes. Great information for professionals and those just seeking wisdom alike.

Sorenson is very vulnerable in his writing which makes the book so real to me. He has lived it and survived. But not just survived. He’s gone on to pay it forward helping other people with addicted loved ones.

I felt like I was right there in the car with Sorenson as he drove to the E.R. at three in the morning, again. I felt the frustration and the anger as my stomach churned with his. And I felt the hope and the heartache in another empty promise of “this will be the last time.”

The questions at the end of each devotion help you to personalize the message and are perfect for discussion.

I think this book is an excellent resource for group study as well as for individuals with addicted loved ones.

Honest, practical, accessible, helpful. Sorenson addresses an important topic that is often overlooked. This is a must-read for those in similar situations. He writes not from an academic viewpoint but from a viewpoint of daily living this reality. So the steps and tips come from lived experiences. The added questions, prayers and takeaways make this an essential read for anyone looking to help a loved one with their addiction. Well written and perfectly constructed in a devotional format.
